Specializes in arthroscopy and sports medicine. James Mathis, Jr., M.D. joined the practice in 2003 after completing a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Foundation for Orthopaedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research at the University of Texas in Houston. Throughout his fellowship training, he worked closely with Rice University Athletics providing athletic team coverage for their football, basketball, and baseball programs. His fellowship training emphasized the latest advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Mathis, a native Houstonian, returned to Texas after completing his orthopaedic residency in Chicago at the University of Illinois medical center, where he trained at several highly acclaimed trauma centers including Cook County Hospital. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his medical degree from Texas Tech University. |
Dr Mathis is a board certified member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery as well as an associate member of the Arthroscopic Association of North America. His clinical interests include treating sports related injuries, fracture care, and joint replacement surgery. He is also the team physician for several high schools in the greater north Houston region.
